Hi, I am new to the blog but your review is wonderful. As I am a mere Muggle listening to music, your review helps me appreciate more of the artistic choices in the discography.

I agree with you on Here I am, the song and the story is so dramatic, so I did not like it at first (coupled with the fact that I don’t like ballad that much). But then it was a song that Yesung wrote, and very likely to be based on his long term lover, that they were speculated to separate due to his insecurities after he enlisted for the army, and it took him nearly 4 year to compose the song. Now the song makes it seems nearly intrusive to his feelings and what he went through at the time, and also probably why he nearly never performed it again since the promotional period of the album.

Anyway, I hope you are still interested in Yesung discography, because I feel like it is such a shame if you leave out his Japanese discography. His JP-side is so different with much more depth but still inextricably him. Surprisingly, he is heavily involved in writing lyrics for most of his JP songs, e.g. he participated in writing the lyrics for all of the songs in his new ‘Waiting for Bloom’. Honorable mention would be my favourite: ‘Fruit of Love’ from his 2023 JP-EP, which I always considered a sister to Easy, as the music is upbeat while the lyrics is about his love is similar to a seed, left unattended and trampled. (Which somehow tied in with the new ‘Waiting for Bloom’s title track where he mentioned that looking back, he was rushing for love and didn’t see that love takes time to bloom). And as you love Corazon Perdido and It’s complicated, I think you would love the most of the songs in Waiting for Bloom. My personal picks would be Fire, Invincible, To get her and of course the White star Melo.

And the choice of the title track for the 1st and 2nd album was a heavy ballad track mostly because of the company’s wish to keep his image as an emotional ballad boy as a vocalist (plus the fact that he is also the member of the ballad subunit of SJ (SJ-KRY)). But since ‘Beautiful Night’, he pretty gained independence on his music choices, hence the change in
