Co-Pilot Reviews

Just what it sounds like; reviews where I brought (read: dragged) one of my lovely friends or family members into the mess that is this blog. They were all a lot of fun in their own ways, and I loved getting different perspectives on both groups I loved and have never heard of before.

Family:

Parents:

Wonder Girls Deep Dive: A Kpop Fan And Her Parents Dive Into A 2nd Gen Classic

As you can see from the title, my mother makes her triumphant return alongside my father, who makes his Married To The Music debut, as I was on the couch with a cold when typing this and roped them into watching music videos from 2008 with me. It was a very fun family evening, at least from my perspective.

Mom:

Yesung Deep Dive: A (Somewhat) Accidental Review By A K-pop Stan And Her Mom

This review began all my co-pilot reviews, actually, because of a mixup when my lovely mother was buying a gift for me in Japan, and she ended up getting Yesung’s Floral Sense. So, thank you Mom, for wasting several Sunday afternoons watching k-pop with your adult daughter! <3. Love you!

Super Junior Deep Dive: A (Mostly Intentional) Review By A K-pop Stan And Her Mom

This one follows on the heels of Yesung, obviously. My mother was kind enough to do another deep dive with me, and after Yesung, we thought, why not SuJu? We had a lot of fun with this one too!

Dad:

Lucy Deep Dive: A Kpop Fan And Her Dad Review K-pop…With A Violin?

As the title says, I wrote this review with my Dad, when I was home for break, who was both the closest willing participant and also quite a talented viola player, so I wanted his opinions and knowledge on string instruments for this. He’s also played violin, though it’s not what he’s focused on at the moment. And he also happens to be a (now retired) documentary maker, so I wanted his opinion on music videos’ cinematography. We had so much fun with this; it was a nice bonding moment for us!

ATEEZ Concert Review: A Kpop Fan And Her Dad’s Experience At The Break The Wall Tour

I actually went to this show with my father, and not entirely on purpose. He’s both a classical music fan and a violist, and we’d originally planned to go see the K-band Lucy, who are known for their violin. But, that didn’t end up working out, and, still wanting to experience a show together, we decided on ATEEZ. He and I shared the sentiment that the show felt less like a concert and a bit more like an interactive Broadway show, in the best way possible. Needless to say, we both had a great time! So, thanks Dad! Love you!

Other Family:

Ella

TXT Concert Review: A K-pop Stan And Her Little Cousin’s Experience At The Act; Promise Tour

I didn’t go to this show alone, but instead, with my little cousin Ella (I say “little”; she was 14 at the time and objects to this). We share a love of singing and musical theater, and try to see a show whenever I get the chance to visit, but she’d never been to a concert before, so I offered to take her. I have to say that it was an absolute joy taking Ella to her first concert, and it was such a great memory for both of us!

Katseye Deep Dive:

(Coming…uh…eventually? They have one EP, Ella, we’ll get to it in like, 2026, promise.)

Friends:

Junie:

NiZiU Deep Dive: A 3 AM Review By A K-pop Fan And Her Friend

This time our guest is my friend Junie, who was very kind to spend a solid hour giving actual good commentary while I was indisposed with fits of giggles. So, thanks Junie for coming along on this little journey with me through K-pop / J-pop land; I hope you had even half as much fun as I did. Love you bestie <3!

Rolling Quartz Concert Review: A Kpop Stan And Her Friend’s Experience At The Stand Up Tour

(Coming in April!!)

(Yes, I will be dragging Junie along to the show.)

Super Junior’s Sexy, Free, & Single—The Most Insane K-pop MV Ever?

So, this MV is so terrible, so incredibly bad, that it deserves its own post. And here we are. Please enjoy the various hilarious (ooh, rhyme!) conversations I had with my mother, my cousin, and a few good friends about it. If you’ve made it to the end of this, thank you for coming on this journey with me! Special thanks to, as always, my lovely mother, my friends Hannah and Diana, and my cousin Ella, who definitely had better things to do with their day, but I’m very glad they spent it with me. Love you guys!!

Monsta X Deep Dive /4: A Rambly Review By A Kpop Blogger And Her Monbebe Friend

Faith is a friend I actually made through the blog, so it feels very full-circle that she came along for this review! As the title says, she’s a Monbebe (a huge MonstaX fan) and so, it was so much fun to have her to guide me through their huge body of work. We’re both certified ramblers, so that’s why it became four parts, but it was a hell of a lot of fun, and I hope we get the chance to do it again. Thanks Faith!
