Favorite Idols: Gen 5

Though I have another page with my favorite groups and bias list, I thought it might be fun to write down my favorite idols themselves and explain why I feel more of a connection to them. This is Generation 5. Let me know your favorite idols in the comments!

Woonhak (BOY — NEXTDOOR)

BoyNextDoor danced their way into my hearts through the adorable MV that is Serenade, and then Woonhak stomped his way in in a pair of stolen sunglasses and three purses when I watched them on Buzzfeed, and I haven’t looked back since. He’s nuts. I love him.

Jiwoong (ZeroBaseOne)

Though I first found him through his acting in Roommates Of Poongduck 304, Jiwoong’s now in ZB1, but he still openly expresses his support for the queer community, something all too rare in the industry. He’s also very caring, and it’s lovely to see.

Yunjin (Le Sserafim)

Yunjin’s around the same age as me and could honestly be any girl I went to college with. I really respect the openness she has discussing life as an idol and of course, her great stage presence. Hope I get to see her live one day!

Seoi (H1-KEY)

Seoi’s a pretty new addition to this list, being H1-KEY’s leader and (in my opinion) their best vocalist. She’s got this confidence and optimism that’s rare in a pretty young idol, and she’s always so kind in every fan interaction I’ve seen.

Hanni (New Jeans)

Maybe one of the bravest kpop idols in recent memory, Hanni became a bias of mine when I started keeping up with New Jeans news. At just 19, she had the guts to testify against her abusive company—and even more, to leave with her bandmates. Round of applause for the girls, everyone.

Yoonchae (Katseye)

This one is included because of my cousin Ella, who is the biggest Katseye fan this side of the Mississippi, and is determined to get me to love Yoonchip as much as she does. Only 16 at time of writing, she’s so off-the-cuff hilarious and has such a polished voice. I can’t wait to see where she goes next!
