This Week In K-pop:
Last week was pretty light, compared to the usual. In terms of girl groups, we had a comeback from BADVILLAN; for boy groups, we had a comeback from LUN8 and the debut of IDID, and in terms of soloists we had a comeback from I-dle’s Yuqi. And that was it.
This week is a bit heavier, especially at the beginning. Today (Monday), we of course have EXO’s Suho, but also comebacks from boy group KickFlip, soloist Lee Jun Young, and girl group GENBLUE. Tomorrow we have a long-awaited comeback from The KingDom as well as one from TIOT, and Wednesday we have two more: WOODZ and Gfriend’s Yerin. Later in the week, we have a comeback from AIMERS on Thursday, and an English album from P1Harmony on Friday.
Next week is *checks notes* October??? Oh my god. Minji, get the pumpkins, I haven’t even thought of a costume—anyway. It seems like it’s going to be fairly light. On Monday there’s the debut of another Seventeen sub-unit, S.Coups and Mingyu, as well as another solo album from EXO member Chen. Later in the week we have a comeback from Izna, a single from soloist Kang Seungsik, and a Japanese release from TripleS, and that’s really it.
This Week’s Spotlight:

I decided that in these weekly posts, I’m going to choose a random song to spotlight as well, especially if its group is now inactive or rarely comes back. This week’s is Obliviate by IU. Now, IU has about a hundred different under-appreciated b-sides that I could’ve chosen from, but I actually chose this one because, the first time I listened to the Modern Times album, I passed it right by. The whole piece is about glitz and glamour, going from tap dance to golden age musical to jazz club, and Obliviate gets lost in the shuffle (pun not intended). And it’s a shame because it’s so good. With a simple hook that doubles as a call to dance and a brass band in the background, it’s a song whose catchiness sneaks up on you. Give it (and the whole album really) a listen, and you won’t be disappointed.
That’s all for this week! Which comeback are you most excited for? Let me know in the comments!
See you next week & Tschüss!
