This Week In K-pop:

Last week, which sadly I didn’t have time to cover in detail, was a HUGE time for kpop, not in the least because of Kpop Demon Hunters demolishing everyone else on the charts. (Of course one of the two weeks I take off is the busiest in living memory). We had comebacks from soloists like Jo Yuri, D.O., and Jeon Somi, groups from 2nd gen legends Super Junior to TWICE to NCT Dream to ATEEZ to a long awaited return from BLACKPINK. And that’s not even counting all the newer groups like Xdinary Heroes, HITGS, ILLIT, ViViZ, NOWZ—-

(I’m dragged off stage with a cane)

Right. Well, this week, we’re starting off once again with NCT Dream and Jo Yuri today (Monday the 14th if you’re not reading this right now), with Onew of SHINee, Sanha of ASTRO, Hyolyn, and the debut of new global boy group SEVENTOEIGHT tomorrow. On Wednesday, we have a comeback from Purple Kiss and soloist Soyou, as well as Japanese releases from SF9, Xikers, and NEXZ. Later in the week we have WayV, Jackson Wang, and the debut of 1Verse (which I know I’m looking forward to!).

Had enough yet? No? GREAT.

Next week, the absolute flood Kpop’s been experiencing is finally going to die down a bit. (Emphasis on “a bit”). We have some well established groups making comebacks, like TXT, EPEX, The Boyz, and STAYC, as well as soloists like Choi Yena, Youngtak, and Huta of BTOB, and newer faces in SEVENTOEIGHT, ASC2NT, and ONE PACT. (Why is everything in caps guys? Stop yelling at me, I’m just trying to listen to some music here, Jesus).

This Week’s Spotlight:

I decided that in these weekly posts, I’m going to choose a random song to spotlight as well, especially if its group is now inactive or rarely comes back. This week’s song is Venus by SHINHWA. Tailor-made for a dance-floor in the same vein as Kara’s Lupin or SHINee’s Ring Ding Dong with its call-and-response chorus, the trim, slinking quality of its verses, and its distorted EDM background, it’s the pinnacle of a sound that’s become ubiquitous. It’s got a sledgehammer hook and an incredible beat, and it’s so underrated in their discography. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

That’s all for this week! Which comeback are you most excited for? Let me know in the comments!

See you soon & Tschüss!
